Employee Spotlight: Kevin (Vice President, Engineering)

Q: What is your favorite part about working for B. Thayer Associates?
A: The best or favorite aspect of working at BTA is the wide array of projects and services we actually design and help construct, so you always will be engaged and never bored.

Q: What has been your favorite project to work on?
A: I guess the favorite project for me is more about the challenge a project presents that may seem impossible or difficult initially but works out to be a great success. This project for me was Speedway Rockville Centre because we were the prime consultant and the project was not supposed to be approved by the Village or developed by Speedway because it required a very tough zone change. The project also had many design challenges related to drainage and DOT access for which the Civil Group at BTA was able to analyze, and resolve. Our testimony and prepared color 3D renderings that we presented for Speedway at the Village Architectural Review, Town Board and Zoning Board was critical in getting this project approved. This is the first new site Speedway has built in the NY tri-state region since they acquired Hess in 2015. As a result of this site they are now looking at new sites which in turn could provide more design projects for BTA.

Q: What are you most proud of?
A: The project I’m most proud of is the RVC Seaman’s Avenue Pump station design and construction. On this project we were the prime consultant and provided Survey, Architectural, Structural, Civil and Construction services. This project was analyzed, designed, and constructed on time and within budget. The Village was impressed with all aspects of this project and was the first project for BTA that LKB, (who we normally sub for) was our sub-consultant.

Q: What is something about you that would surprise people?
A: I can say a lot here but will leave it at, I’m an avid Snowboarder..
