Through this project, our team developed a more inviting streetscape for visitors,
residents and adjacent businesses along the Beach 108th Street corridor in Rockaway
Park through new amenities for civil design for utilities and landscape design. Design
scope included civil design for new utilities including water main, drainage and water.
Our scope also included arborist and landscape architectural services to improve
economic resiliency and pedestrian safety by providing an attractive passage to and
from the beach with streetscape amenities, shade trees, widened sidewalks and a
protected bike path.
We maximized tree planting along the corridor while observing multiple site
constraints, including traffic sightlines, underground utilities, and pedestrian and
street lighting. Tree species for the site include a diverse range of drought-tolerant and
saltwater inundation-tolerant trees that unify the corridor between the north and south
ends of Beach 108th Street. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring of 2020 and
be completed by spring of 2022.
