Land Survey Instrument Operator
We are looking to fill a land survey instrument operator based in the Woodbury office, but will involve field work across Long Island, New York City, and occasionally beyond. Candidates must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather, and possibly even at night on some projects.
The successful candidate will become one of BTAs field crew members. He or she will be responsible for following the directions of their crew chief, and to assist the crew chief in collecting all the data needed.
A four year survey degree (no experience necessary), a two year survey degree with one year of instrument operating experience or a high school diploma or equivalent with three years of instrument operating experience
Must be able to operate GPS receivers in RTK and static mode
Must be familiar with total stations and data collectors
Must be familiar with differential leveling techniques
Must be able to work as part of a team, including working with, and taking advice from your crew chief
Previous agency work, such as NYC DDC, NYS DOT, NYC Parks would be beneficial, but is not necessary
The successful applicant must be able to:
Walk long distances carrying survey equipment
Be prepared to work in the road, when it is safe to do so
Be physically able to open manholes to measure inverts, and to perform all other tasks a land survey crew might reasonably be requested to perform
Candidates must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather
